The course was designed for those interested in issues of public health, especially cancer. The learner will be able to identify the most common types of cancer (breast and bowel colon cancer), the general symptoms and risk factors which increase the chances of cancer occurrence, and early detection methods. The course also encourages adopting healthier lifestyles that mitigate the risk of cancer, especially quitting smoking.
The course also aims to modify social behavior and gain public support; although learning more about health can help us change our behaviors and the behaviors of those around us, by using the right tools one can positively influence an entire community.
By learning and using the right advocacy concepts and tools, you are taking responsibility for the cancer issue by influencing the decision makers and mitigating cancer mortality rates by increasing early detection rates.
Dr. Asem Mansour has served as CEO and Director General of the King Hussein Cancer Center (KHCC) since April 2012. In this role, he leads more than 2,000 oncologists and medical professionals in executing KHCC’s vision to provide the highest quality care to cancer patients in Jordan and across the Middle East. Under his leadership KHCC underwent the region’s largest cancer center expansion, which is set to include a new, 13-story inpatient tower and a 10-story outpatient building. KHCC’s new campus will total over 108,000 square meters, doubling its existing capacity for patient care and significantly increasing its education and research capability. Dr. Mansour’s affiliation with KHCC dates back to 1998 when he was appointed as Chairman of the Department of Diagnostic Radiology. In this role, he led the department’s growth to become one of the most advanced diagnostic imaging facilities in the region, with highly qualified staff and state-of-the-art machinery. Dr. Mansour further serves as Chairman of the Board of the Jordan Breast Cancer Program. He earned his master’s degree in Medical Management from Carnegie Mellon University and an M.D. from Vitebsk Medical Institute and a fellowship from The Royal College Of Radiologists-London.

As Head of the Nutrition and Health Education at the Cancer Control Office/ King Hussein Cancer Center (KHCC). Ms. Shihab, Plays a key role in different projects at the cancer control office as the smoke free-zone certificate program since 2014. And several research projects focusing on different aspects of tobacco control. Developing programs and trainings of counsellors related to tobacco control and healthy lifestyle are parts of her responsibilities. She is also, passionate about spreading awareness about harms of tobacco use as well as spreading awareness about healthy lifestyles for cancer prevention for different age groups.
Training and Outreach Manager in the Communication and Social Marketing Unit of the Jordan Breast Cancer Program. The Main responsibilities Ms. Batool hold, is the development of training programs, to build the capacities of targeted groups, communities and employees, based on the participatory approach, adult learning Methodologies, and behavioral change perspective, all pouring into producing an actual behavioral impact on our targeted groups, rather than raising only awareness and increasing knowledge. Ms. Batool has a vast experience in the training sector, in regards to public health topics as well as Behavioral and Soft Skills; serving as a training consultant in different programs , including breast cancer, under the Jordan Breast Cancer Program; family planning in cooperation with the Tawasol Project, JCAP; reproductive health under the I Decide initiative, and as a part of the International Planned Parenthood Federation; sexually transmitted diseases in cooperation with the International Relief for Development Organization. In parallel to training, Ms. Batool worked as a Nutrition Consultant in emergencies, Al-Zaatari Camp with Save the Children Jordan, and was Maharat’s Manager, the National Training Center, BDC. Ms. Batool Holds a Masters Degree in Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics, from the University of Jordan; A Certified Dialogue Education Practitioner (Training Specialist), and a Certified Social Marketer (Behavioral Change Specialist) from the Global Learning Partners and the National Social Marketing Center, respectively.
